Cottonwood Heights is watershed country. That single fact shapes every walk we plan here — and it is the thing most out-of-area walkers get wrong.
Dogs are prohibited throughout the Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood watershed, including the canyon trails your neighbors' Instagram may suggest otherwise. We route instead to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail sections outside the watershed boundary, Ferguson Canyon's permitted lower approach, and the good network of city parks and connector paths.
Streets here climb quickly. Steeper grades may suit some conditioned dogs and be inappropriate for others. Bramblebrook starts conservatively, observes comfort and recovery, and adjusts future outings rather than promising fixed mileage.
North-facing streets can hold ice late into the season. Winter plans account for footing, salt and snow buildup, with shorter or flatter alternatives used when the intended route is not suitable.
